About this book

The ubiquity of the avant-garde may lead us to wonder what remains of the original project. Despite its alleged failure or cooptation, the avant-garde and avant-garde theories helped to decenter, subvert, and transform the entire field of literature and aesthetics. With its projects of turning non-art into art and reconciling art and life, the avant-garde has become a benchmark in contemporary art and literature.
