Abstract

Welcome to the 12th edition of ACM Creativity and Cognition Conference Series (C&C), a biennial conference focused on bringing together people-who identify as artists, scientists, designers, educators, and researchers-working to develop new understandings of how people engage individually and socially in creative processes. The theme for C&C 2019 is transformational creativity, which highlights the impact that human and computational aspects of creativity can have on our communities and cultures. Amidst ACM SIGCHI's large umbrella of Human-Computer Interaction research, C&C coalesces a territory of research focused on creativity and how computing and other technology forms can affect creative outcomes. The community has grown since its inception to include diverse fields-such as the humanities, social and cognitive psychology, engineering, and computer science-in combination with the panoply of creative fields in art and design. We are grateful for the community's vibrant participation, and for ACM SIGCHI's supportive encouragement and valuable infrastructure.

We are excited to co-locate our conference with Designing Interactive Systems (DIS 2019) at the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay in San Diego. The conferences will host a shared Art Exhibition and one-full day of conference programming to support dialogue between the two overlapping communities. We hope co-locating will incubate the development of new relationships and understandings among creativity and design researchers, spawning new hybrid territories in the broader space of human-computer interaction research.

The C&C 2019 general chairs and program chairs have worked to foster a participatory review process for our dynamic program which includes tracks for papers, pictorials, artworks, posters, demos, graduate student symposium, and workshops. Each track functioned autonomously. We want to thank Ali Mazalek (Ryerson University) and Kurt Luther (Virginia Tech) who led the Papers track and recruited a program committee of 29 excellent associate chairs (ACs)-each of whom reviewed 6-9 papers. Each paper received at least two external reviews, one 2AC review by a program committee member, and a meta review by another AC. The PC accepted 30 of 101 papers (29.7% acceptance rate).
