About this book

The source edition presents texts in the aesthetic tradition drawing upon the work of Johann Friedrich Herbart. Between 1820 and 1920, his formal scientific approach led to a reconceptualization of the notion of form, thus helping to shape 20^th century cultural and humanistic theory. Herbartianism holds a special place in European formalism and structuralism.
