The first systematic discussion of the bodhisattva path in Māhayāna Buddhism from a Christian theological perspective.

Argues that Christian theology can take direct instruction from Buddhism: developing an understanding of a “no-self” dimension in all creatures, recognizing an unvarying nondual dimension of divine immanence in the world, and appreciating that both of these are constituent dimensions in Christ’s incarnation and human redemption.

His books include Salvations: Truth and Difference in Religion, The Depth of the Riches: A Trinitarian Theology of Religious Ends, Saved from Sacrifice: A Theology of the Cross, and Crucified Wisdom: Christ and the Bodhisattva in Theological Reflection.S. Mark Heim is Samuel Abbot Professor of Theology at Andover Newton Seminary at Yale and a Visiting Professor at Yale Divinity School. He is the author and editor of several books, the most recent of which is Saved from Sacrifice: A Theology of the Cross.
