Open Access Transformation Packages
We are committed to make open access publishing possible for all our book authors in the future. With this vision in mind, we have developed new transformation and funding models for open access books. Together with partners like the Göttingen State & University Library and Jisc, we have been able to transform almost 100 books to open access through these collaborative funding models in recent years, without any costs to the authors.
The crowdfunding is organized exclusively through established library infrastructures. Instead of purchasing the ebook license or the printed book as in the past, participating institutions fund the open access publication of selected new publications in the Humanities and Social Sciences.

Open-Access-Transformation "Millennium Studien"
close The renowned ancient studies series Millennium-Studien was successfully transformed into Open Access as part of the BMBF-funded TransMill project and with the support of the Specialized Information Service for Classical Studies, both based at the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek. Both the backlist of the series (2004 - 2020; 88 volumes) and the new publications for 2021 and 2022 are freely available: https://www.degruyter.com/seri...
To ensure that the publications planned for 2023 to 2025 can also be published in Open Access, an Open Access consortium was founded in cooperation between De Gruyter and the Bavarian State Library, in which 36 libraries from German-speaking countries have so far participated. Their contribution ensures that the series will continue to be published in gold open access without any publication costs for the authors.
