Als Paleja bezeichnet man ein Genre von Anthologien zur alttestamentlichen Geschichte. Die Paleja-Literatur erzählt die großen Erzählkränze zwischen Weltschöpfung und Königszeit nach und gibt ihnen zugleich zahlreiche Ausschmückungen bei, die auch verschiedene jüdische und christliche Apokryphen aufgreifen. Die Kurze Chronographische Paleja, entstanden im frühen 15. Jh., gehört zur altrussischen Textgruppe der Tolkovaja Paleja und damit zu dem weitläufigen Literaturbereich der europäischen »Historienbibeln«. Sie zeigt den Blick eines altrussischen Gelehrten auf die Hauptereignisse der Weltgeschichte von der Schöpfung bis in das 10. Jahrhundert und damit ein Stück Rezeptionsgeschichte von Altem Testament und byzantinischer Chronographie. Die vorliegende Edition, die in internationaler Zusammenarbeit entstanden ist, erschließt erstmals das noch weithin unbekannte Werk für die Wissenschaft. Der vorliegende Band enthält den kirchenslavischen kritischen Text mit deutscher Übersetzung.
