About this book

Shear Thickening Fluid: Case Studies in Engineering provides a set of case studies and research data on the cutting-edge technology of shear thickening fluid (STF) to assist readers with understanding the adaptive behavior of STF in different engineering applications. Various engineering designs are adapted by including STF to take advantage of this smart material in the areas of protective structures, energy-absorbing systems, vibration-damping devices, and surface finishing operations.

A companion volume to the book Shear Thickening Fluid: Theory and Applications, this volume will be a valuable reference for practicing engineers, researchers, and scientists working in advanced materials, smart structures, and intelligent engineering applications.

About the editor

Selim Gürgen, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Aeronautical Engineering at Eskişehir Osmangazi University. He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Gazi University and Middle East Technical University, respectively, and his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Eskişehir Osmangazi University. He was a visiting researcher at the University of Wollongong for a project on smart materials and worked as a researcher with the School of Transportation at Anadolu University for four years. Before his academic life, he worked as a manufacturing engineer in a joint venture of KMWE-Dutch Aero in the Netherlands for three years. Dr. Gürgen has contributed to several industrial and research projects in collaboration with major organizations such as Fiat Automobiles, the Turkish Air Force, and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK). He has many publications in refereed international journals and conferences andis co-editor of the book Materials, Structures, and Manufacturing for Aircraft (Springer, 2022). He serves as an editorial member for several international journals. His primary area of research is material science, in particular smart fluids and their applications in defense and aerospace applications. His Ph.D. studies were on shear thickening fluid (STF) and many of his projects and publications focus on STF and its applications.
